It was all I could to stare. Being this far out in the forest, I hadn't expected anyone to find me. And yet there she was. Staring back at the group of youkai surrounding me, with a look of fierce determination. Either got worried about me, which makes no sense, or she was just bored. The latter seems more likely.
Their attention now focused on the silhouette in front of me, the youkai proceeded to advance. Not even batting an eye, she rose her hand, and an army of small figures rose out of the shadows. I guess she was controlling them. I wanted to try and go back to the house, but I could just stare. Her elegant arm movements.....
My thoughts were scattered when a bright light followed by a blast of air and an ear shattering sound occurred. Was that an explosion? Then another. And another. What the crap is happening? Well, the explosions had stopped, and there was a cloud of dust and smoke hanging where everyone was. When the smoke cleared, there were red smears, and the occasional foot. And there she was, lying on the ground, motionless. Blackened by soot and dirt, her clothes torn and bloodied, she was barely recognizable.
Run. That's all that was going through my mind. Run, and get her back to the house immediately. I put my arms underneath her limp body, and lifted. She weighed a lot less than I thought. Before I knew what was happening, I was sprinting back to the house, full throttle, no brakes. I was a decent runner back in school. I could run faster than all my friends, which was a nice thing to have in a pinch, such as now. Not knowing how long I had been running, the house came into view, and I slowed to a jog.
Kicking the door open, I hurried to her room and threw her on the bed. I went back to the kitchen, frantically looking for something, anything that could help. Then, I remembered her saying something in the forest today. This one is Habaru Canofus. The healing mushroom. The smell alone is enough to bring someone back to consciousness. I keep a few of these in the kitchen, just in case. I wracked every shelf and container I could find for one of these.
In an act of desperation, I decided to check the least likely place. The bottom of the mushroom bucket. Digging through to the bottom, there it was. So small I would have missed it otherwise. I can't believe my luck. Without another thought, I snatched it up and almost flew back to her room. She hadn't moved at all. I scratched the surface with my fingernail, and a pungent smell arose. I put it near her dreary face, and waved it around. Her eyes twitched. Oh my god, it must be working. She opened her mouth and let out a sigh.
"Haahh....I'm tired..." She must not be aware of what's happening.
"Here, eat this." I thrust the mushroom close to her face. "It's good for you." Without hesitation, she opened her mouth, and I laid the mushroom on her tongue. She began chewing, and then swallowed. She let her head rest on the bed again, and began to snore. Out of curiosity, I looked down at an open wound on her left arm. Before my eyes, it closed up like an eye shutting, leaving no trace a scar was ever there. I can't believe it. I might have just saved her life.
Feeling immensely confident, I strode to my own room, climbed into bed, and drifted off instantly.
