> "The lack of sound is curious."
> Step through the torii, bracing for lots of noise.

>"Oh, yeah, Apex can get noisy," says Flandre.
>You step through, and into the night. Bright lights of many colors shine from multi-story buildings, made of stone and wood; thousands of sounds. There's no pattern to them; some are practically straight from home, wooden buildings with sloping roofs and familiar features. Others are more like temples, made of stone yet bearing no signs of sacredness to them. Still more are stranger, rectangular things, places made of what must be mirrors and more. Lights are everywhere, lights spelling out things, lights dotting eaves. Red lights atop tall things, signs glowing white and yellow and blue and red.
>The treets are busy with people, as much a riot of clashing styles as the architecture. Humans and youkai in clothing familair and unfamiliar, youkai that are completely foreign, humans in shades you've only seen in Remilia's galleries. Strange vehicles occupy the streets, competing for space with pedestrians and rickshaws and sedan chairs. The street stretches on ahead of you, but you cannot see very far for all of the crowds and the buildings. You then note a straight machine crossing the sky, like a huge balloon with fins.
>Flandre places a hand on your shoulder and gives a small squeeze.

>You can pick out a few nearby: A fairly traditional-looking building called Crow Mart, a place with books in the windows that is simply called Jizu's. There is what seems to be a restaurant in a blocky stone building called The Blue Shell, its sign features a crab. Across from the Crow Mart and a little further down is a building that seems to be made of brick and glass, called Havel's Vacuums. Others don't seem to be languages you know, or just bear pictures of things like sake cups, and animals. One is just splashed with various colors.

> Nod.
> "Very well. Let us visit Nue first, then."

>Flandre nods and continues onward.
>The street grows more and more crowded as you continue onward, with more strange vehicles, and more strange people. Many of them are youkai, but you're not certain if they are actually youkai, or some kind of strange foreign monster. Things only grow less familiar the further in you get, the buildings become more alien, the humans and youkai alike stranger and stranger. You even pick out some tents among the former, round things that look kind of like huts. You see a youkai with snakes in place of hair, wearing heavy veils and a dress that looks like a wrapped cloth. At a food stand, you see what looks like an adult woman with faerie wings, drinking something out of what appears to be a daffodil blossom. An emanicated woman with feathers woven into her lumbers down the opposite path, you can feel her watching you, sizing you up. You contemplate drawing out a knife, but she seems to think you must not be worth dealing with and continues to lumber along.
>Flandre seems confident for awhile, until the street widens into a plaza lined with various statues. "Mmm, which way is it?" she says, looking around.
