As usual, someone woke me up from my self-loathing slumber and pushed me towards it a bit. Seems like I owe some gratitude to Waah, since I finally reached that goal of 1.5B ReimuA. I guess I should update the Royalflare post as well. Maybe I'll sit down and learn some proper techniques for grazing shit on Yuyuko and borders on the game some day. Yeah, some day, we'll see about that in 2014. For now I must continue IN. Yukari FinalB easy is my current main goal, I think. Or I could play just some other games for less serious stuff. I don't know.

I have replays (videos) for every scene an plan to upload them. the only think I am unsure of currently is how :V I mean, do I wait until I have cleared every scene (8-7 and 9-7 oh god...), do I upload them stage by stage or do I pak them together (i.e 3 stages in one video)

what do you guys think :V I also plan to put my own music in the video, considering that it's super annoying to hear the first 20 seconds of the bgm the game has; then the scene is finished and we repeat it. so yeah. don't expect ingame music :V

Congrats man! I think doing 1 video per stage is a good way, I guess one song should be enough to last when you are playing at 90 fps. Or maybe just making one video of the scenes you liked the most or something. Did any scene give you much trouble yet? I still haven't done all of stage 6 and 7 on 120fps :c

trouble...well I found 6-2 really tough for...you know...stage 6. stage 7 didn't have anything where I went "wow, fuck that's difficult" though, I did mess up 7-2 rotation due a few times to my movement speed. also hated sakuya running away from my lense, I thought it would be much harder, though. so I am happy I got it in as few tries as I did.

others that game me tons of trouble were 8-3, 8-7 and 9-3. and unsurprisingly 9-6. the one scene from stage 9 I haven't managed yet. I am also dreading a couple scenes from stage 10, though extra shouldn't be too hard. 9 and 10 are definitely more difficult. "guilty not guilty" and the mirror thing might actually be REALLY difficult. old rain is going to be hell, too. and as a matter of fact, I found 5-1 and 5-5 pretty difficult. random dodging at that speed? well. it looks cool if you actually dodge something, rather than hit it :V

seeing how aya's movement speed is already bullshit to control on 90 fps, I don't even want to imagine what it's like on 120. it's like every time I move unfocused, I die, because tapping means you go like 20 pixels into that direction.

well, I do plan on finishing the rest of the game as well...though, if I hit like 3000 photos on kinkaku-ji, I might skip this one :V still have 1400 left, so yeah.

alright, I put together the first three stages already, so those will come up together (they're really unexciting, anyways), from tht point onwards I can put up the stages individually, though.

anyways, good luck on your 120 fps runs! that's hot shit you're doing there. can't even begin to do some scenes at that speed.

Hardest early scene was 4-5 for me, but it was really fun too. Mmh sounds like it's about the same experience, actually 6-7 was really scary too, and 8-6 I still haven't gotten because I crash into stuff. 9-4 was really crazy and fun too.

Seems some scenes will be too hard or take too much patience though so I'm not aiming for an all clear. Getting 9-6 would be nice, but I haven't even gotten to the last phase once in 600 photos so I'm not too hopeful.

I played some more now and got to 70 scenes clear, most recent were EX-6 (using the proxy #yolo #swag strat), 7-3 and 10-8!!! Gotta go fast xDDDDD

Actually, I captured both Id and Super-Ego in the same run (and then proceeded to die twice to the first phase of Subterranean Rose, but still).
Thanks Wriggle for the idea of dodging a bit more at the bottom of the screen, it makes things easier.

Imo it doesn't, as most of EoSD's patterns aren't too dense as it was supposed to be played with a visible hitbox, though it does help with the thing of the hitbox not making sense, and not aligning with your char. Still, it doesn't make much difference to me, and I prefer playing w/o it as the .dll is kinda buggy and causes crash in fullscreen if the game is minimized and you try to back in, and you never know when a window decides to pop out of nowhere. :V

And personally, I view it as cheating, seeing as you're directly modifying the game to make it easier. Nobody really cares though, unless maybe you're submitting high scores with it.

Yes, having no hitbox would definitely be cheating, since there'd be no way to die. Not sure if it'd score well in the more graze-heavy games though.

Nothing special, captured Sanae's first, Ancestors, Parano?a, Super-Ego, Polygraph.
Blew half of my resources at Genetics, and the other half at the survival (with literal bombspam during the last 30 seconds)  :V
Also, this stage is awesome.

Only Mamizou left and I'll be done with all the Extra stages.

I decided to play MSD stage 5 on revelation mode with max everything except hyper rank, and made it to the TLB's second phases second pattern.

But that's not the accomplishment, the accomplishment is the score.



Don't you think that's a bit overkill for one stage?

Unless you are playing for high-scores, as Zil also mentioned, you just do what you want. I've tried playing with and without the hitbox patch and I see no considerable differences in performance except for when squeezing through tiny gaps. I don't view it as cheating (because I don't play it competitively) but rather a little thing to help counter-balance the massive overload of rubbish that the game in my opinion likes to throw at you like hitboxes inconsistent with the rest of the series (like wtf?) so what I really mean to say with this is that if you like playing with a visible hitbox and aren't doing serious score-play, just keep playing like that.

PS: Invisible hitbox is pretty dumb too. When they shower the player with this many bullets as a bullethell game does it's only reasonable to have your one weak-spot actually be visible.

Zengeku: not even all tiny gaps, just ones where vertical positioning is crucial.  And still probably only when switching between characters.  At least from my experience (I use the invisible hitbox patch on everything except in PoFV when I might face Medicine [pvp and some scorerunning]).

I think invisible hitboxes are fine as long as you get to see them at some point, such as in the opening tutorial or in the first few seconds of each stage.  But even if the game doesn't give you that, undersized bullet hitboxes are a far bigger issue.  It's easy enough to learn a character hitbox after a couple of hours, but overlapping bullets obscure gaps, turning what should be a dodging challenge into a visual one (and that's after you've spent several, even dozens of hours to fully learn them all).  Touhou, Cave, and probably all other bullet-hell shmups sacrifice function for form.  It's sickening.

Sure, it's fine to complain about character hitboxes, but it's such a small thing and the larger hitbox issue always seems to be overlooked.  It bugs me.


Anyway.  Something isn't cheating if it's only for personal satisfaction; "cheating yourself" is a misnomer.  And the benefit of having a visible character hitbox is so slight that you shouldn't feel the need to qualify your accomplishment.  So, like others have said: if you like visibile hitboxes in EoSD, go for it.  Personally, I don't see how you could, as Touhou hitboxes are fugly, but whatever flies your ship, man.

EoSD does have a lot of bullshit compared to the other games. No visible hitbox despite bullet density being as bad as the games after it? Inconsistent bullet hitboxes? Input lag that screws up timing all over the damn place? Yeah, that's why I play with visible "focus only" hitbox (because just overlaying the hitbox image on the character sprite is a stupid way of implementing a visible hitbox) and the VSync Patch, so that I can eliminate at least some of the fake difficulty. It doesn't actually affect my skill level too much, it just means I can actually play the game like it was one of the later ones.
As well, I don't do score runs, so I'm not worried about it. I might attempt challenge runs some day, but score runs are a no-go for me.

I agree with most of the stuff in here. It's annoying when bullet hell games expects you to squeeze through gaps that you can't even see because the sprites are so large that they overlap each other but for me it's sorta just something you learn to deal with. As long as the shmups keep their hitboxes consistent. If I see one bullet with one hitbox I'll eventually get used to it but then I'll also expect bullets sharing the same sprite in later installments to have the same hitboxes.

I don't have a replay for everything because I haven't uploaded in a while for various reasons such as the fact that I can barely connect to the internet nowadays and I usually spend the time I DO have internet talking to my friends or doing schoolwork.
There's also the fact that I've been doing a lot of system restoring as of late because fuck Windows 7's updates as of late, so some files may no longer exist.
I also have the fact that gensokyo.org was down and I didn't know when it would come back on, because I'm not on here as often as I was a year ago.

So, here's what I can remember.
