Title: I have returned
Post by: Dr. Z on August 24, 2010, 08:40:32 PM
I just got back from getting by bunions scraped and my arthritis treated, so now it is time for another diatribe. Recently, I was rather shocked and appalled by a news article I saw in the Sunday Times. It detailed the increasing spread of encroaching cultural factors which menace to undermine the social contract established by human civilization. It is in all of our best interest that we endeavor to curb this threat as expeditiously and efficiently as possible, so as to preserve our very way of life. I am greatly enthralled in monitoring your progress on this front. Don't disappoint me.

Cordially,
Dr. Z

And can I have a hug?

They are obscure and ill-defined, but can best be described as a systematic process of history. They can be identified by their resemblance to a number of hostile political movements throughout history, although they are not identical.

I suggest going back to a system of social contract as it is described by Thomas Hobbes and establish a Leviathan. This forum has already done so with the Idiot Hierarchy, to which we all sacrifice our sanity in exchange for mindless amusement. I'd say we're a good example of a perfect society~

Not that I am aware of. I read it in a newspaper, which many of you young people may consider obsolete as a medium of information transfer.

I just got back from discussing Maid RPG. Right now I am rather vexed and concerned from reading this forum post by someone who claims to be a doctor, posting naught but a single initial ?Z? to identify himself. The post decries and condemns the great changes that are shaping our society today, something he criticizes to be impinging upon these vague, undefined abstract limitations he calls ?social contracts established by human civilization?. Without cause or reason he declares that it is in our best interests to prevent this thing he baselessly disparages as a threat in order to preserve something he describes as ?our way of life?. I am bothered, troubled, even alarmed that this person could talk of such an atrocious protestation against the very drive of humanity?s progress with such calm, effortless eloquence. That this ?diatribe? of his might even seem logical and persuasive to some, powerful even. I fear what may happen if this person is allowed to speak to the ignorant masses, influencing and swaying their wills. For this thing he attacks, that he demands censure on, is the very power of change! He attempts to impose these restraints, these limits, to the very fuel of human lives. Change moves human civilization forwards. There are no limits, no confines! If anything, the only law of life, the only ?social contract?, is progress. Development and advancement are the very foundations of this ?social contract? that humanity endeavours to uphold every passing day. It is the very basis upon which the institution of life is built. Our way of life depends on it. To impede it would be folly. To curb it would be suicide. To stop it would be death. I look on in anxiety and fear at this. My only hope is that you can decide for yourself the truth and the course of action you must take.

You have greatly misapprehended my missive, as I am not in opposition to the overall concept of change, but all change is not for the better. There are positive and negative changes. Positive change will propel humanity into a bright future, unburdened by evils such as poverty, war, disease, and prejudice. The type of change I am referring to is a deleterious assault upon the very foundations of society, which, if allowed to progress unhindered, will lead to the absolute downfall of civilization and a return to the neolithic era at best.

Surely you are mistaken. Allow me to read it.

Oh, dear, this is far worse than I had ever anticipated. It seems the pernicious factors which I speak of have already extended their influence so far as to cut off my main source of information. This only proves what I have been saying. We must act now, or our children, and our children's children, will be born into a world of misery and fascism.

But good Doctor, the power of change is neither good nor bad. It is neutral. It is what we, humanity, make of it, that gives it value. Let us take the example of the Korean War. While the Korean war ravaged and destroyed the Korean peninsula, it fueled the rebuilding of the Japanese industry and economy from its absolute destruction in World War II. This provided the foundation for Asia's economy and even allowed the forging of South Korea's economic foundations further down in history. In this case, change for the worse caused advancement. Or let us take the more immediate, modernly relevant case of over-abundance. You might say that increasing productivity of food and improvement of nutrition as well as decreasing requirements for labour is a good thing. However, it paradoxically lead to obesity and a decline in health worldwide.

There is no 'good or bad', doctor. There is only 'change' and those too weak to shape it.

Also, it now very early in the morning where I am and I am starting to ramble from sleep deprivation.

While you are correct that change itself is a neutral quality, what I speak of are the specific and inevitable effects of certain changes. Surely you concede that there are certain changes which could have no positive consequences or, at least, that there are changes where any positive consequences resulting would be far outweighed by the negative.

Wait. Does that mean Cosmic Horrors are the way towards the change you want us to fulfill? That would indeed be a very iteresting method, and likely a successful one as well.
And I am certain that the Horrors are not part of the forces on earth preventing the necessary change, for obvious reasons.

I notice you haven't actually said what this cause is. Or what you're going against. Or anything, for that matter.

I have explained myself several times, but it is necessary to be cryptic in the event that my messages are being read by the enemy.

This method is futile. Unless your expected allies are measurably more intelligent than the enemy, you are simply reducing the overall amount of people who understand you. The ratio of allies who understand to the enemies who understand should stay roughly the same.
The only way your method could work was if you applied actual cryptography with a lingual key that only your allies possess. The way you are doing it, the only thing that seperates your message from your post is a dictionary and a bit of work, for friend and enemy alike.

You have come close to revealing the truth. Think about what you said, and then derive the correct conclusion.
This implies that there actually is a "proper" way to decode your messages and which reveals information far beyond those unneccessarily complicated sentence contructs of yours. However, if that was the case, then your premise of trying to inform the masses, increasing awareness and your number of allies, was doomed from the start, as the people you are trying to inform would require to know your intended method of decoding. Thus you would have to make it public, rendering the entire action moot, especially considering that you openly refrain from using pms to get through to the more promising members of the public.

As it is, all I can do is telling you:

Assuming that evil is unable to comprehend good is a logical fallacy, and assumption imprinted upon us by idealistic pieces of fiction designed to subconsciously influence people to do good themselves, even without going into the trouble of defining "good" and "evil", a train of thought trying to establish some sort of moral authority with whom you would then judge a person or situation not by objective standards, but by your subjective perception of what is ethical and what not, leading to errors which may cost you a huge price.

You don't want that, do you?

On the contrary, skepticism is the sign of a healthy mind.  Question everything, don't take anything at face value, and always doubt something unless you have good reason to trust it.  Continual questioning of a subject will eventually lead to the truth being revealed.  Were it not for skepticism, we'd never get any real answers to anything. >.>

WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?

I have corrected your cunning monologue on the immense value of chaos.

Quote
You have greatly misapprehended my missive, as I am not in opposition to the overall concept of change, but all change is not for the better. There are positive and negative changes. Positive change will propel humanity into a bright future, unburdened by evils such as poverty, war, disease, and prejudice. The type of change I am referring to is a deleterious assault upon the very foundations of society, which, if allowed to progress unhindered, will lead to the absolute downfall of civilization and a return to the neolithic era at best.

And who might you be to impose your own small minded and possibly idealistic, but impractical views upon the wave of the future, when you yourself are not able to accurately project where these changes are taking us? How is it possible for you to have knowledge of anything that exists in the near or distant future?

Alas, I have nothing to add and merely hope you endeavor to question your stodgy, staid, stilted views and cease to be a deleterious dipsomaniac.

So this is the Dr. Z I've heard of before.

Well nice to meet you doctor. I believe I had someone under the same name in my Grade 10 History class once though. He was from Kazakhstan though, and you told me you were a brother of Borat ;)

Why are we all assuming he is a doctor? Has he shown the proper credentials and paperwork proving he's one? I mean, I wouldn't trust some random guy who walked up to me in a street claiming to be a doctor.

For all we know, he could be the SM equivalent of one of those crack doctors who sell bottled water 'miracle' cures.  :/

Oh my GOD.

My delusionssuspicions were correct, he's planning to destroy America. And we're the only ones who can stop it. America gives us KFC, Pepsi, and the Ford pickup truck. How can Dr. Z be so heartless to destroy an entire nation of people? He must be one of those evil, cliche scientists from a bond movie! Clearly, the Vile Dr. Z must be stopped at all costs. Our lives, our soft drinks, and our fried chicken depend on it

So, has anyone tried to decipher Dr.Z's message by using Touhou? Because, he chose this place because we are seemingly expected to posess the knowledge needed to understand him. And what makes us special is that we are a Touhou board, so obviously this is the answer!

Man, it's probably ZUN trying to tell us about the plot of Touhou 13! Hell, even the 'Z' fits!

I'm having a hard time tokin you seriously with this caw-ntankerous behavior.  I suggest you give it a roost before the onlookers get all atwitter.  They've got plans to tar and feather you, so you'd best fly on out of here before they get murder on their minds.  Normally I'm a little more pheasant when giving advice, but frankly if they catch you I don't think I'll give a flock.
