The only thing I would find that may have appeared questionable was the statement implying that he would have gotten banned even if he had successfully finished the snowball challenge.

What he got was in no way unjust, though. If you look at how much he has done, how often he has been told to stop it, how often he has refused to read the rules or abide by them, which, as we can beyond reasonable doubt conclude from his comments, was done consciously, well, you get my point.

What was done was revealing his actions to the public. The humiliation he did himself.

I don't see a problem with people laughing at him over a background check since he pretty much deserved it as far as I can tell, but assigning him an impossible challenge just so everyone can find yet another reason to mock him is kind of a dick move. Why couldn't he just have been perma-banned without being exploited? That just kind of struck me as malicious when I read this thread.
Did you miss the part where he whined about not wanting to do it?

I don't think you understand how long we've been dealing with him, and how many times he's been banned previous to this final "last time".  Hell, we fucking gave him another shot despite him bandodging 5 times, and it turned up to be the same stupid poster he was over a year ago.

Frankly, I don't care how long it has been. I still think it's malicious to make a thread simply to hate one person. Call it moral high ground or whatever you may, he still needs to be treated with SOME dignity.

Even in the Snowball Challenge, it was said that if his entry turned out to be a really great one, he'd be let back in. The mods here are incredibly charitable, and I think it's a bit unfair to take issue with laughing at a guy who's basically made an internet career out of spamming up forums and ban-dodging, including this one as well.

Also, I'd like to thank Ruro and TSO for unearthing his history of bad behavior. This is a pattern of behavior with him, and folks like him usually get away with it because no one knows about their past.

ruro was there in spirit
<3

He left a paper trail of pure stupid in his wake everywhere he went. I just found the links and pasted them into IRC, and TSO posted them in the appeals thread for laugh riots to be had. It wasn't hard to find him, his style was terrible-- all he ever did was demand downloads. He basically did all the work for me. ~

Don't we have better things to do than make fun of a pitiful, lonely wannabe troll? I think now that we're the pathetic ones.
Oh, we'll move on from him, but this was DAMN fun to do last night. Anything we can do would be a better use of time than this (NaNoWriMo!) but it's not such a bad thing to take some time out of our busy schedules to list one by one in his face why no one can stand him.

We gave him a chance to redeem himself-- indeed, I went out of my way to make that a fair challenge, giving him three options when everyone else has had AT MOST two. And then he said this little gem:

No!!!!!!!!!!
I was given a challenge. It was to last 5 days. The admin can not remove the challenge before 5 days has passed.
Now he's ordering us around. Ahahahah oh god.

It's this same human trait that results in bullying, racism, sexism, and any amount of human rights violations. A group judges someone as an acceptable target for any and all malice sent their way. Even in a minor and inocuous situation like this one, it depresses me.
This is the one thing I will concede: I went searching for his paper trail more for our having fun at his expense than the slight hope that they might actually spark a catharsis and he might actually use all that damning evidence as the basis for some kind of personal growth. But when you put this into context and realize that he was trying to make a mockery of us and our community with his bandodging and wasteful posts, I find it depressing that you could even begin to "take his side", as it were. The whole point of the idiot challenge was for him to get one more chance to make us all laugh-- and I don't mean that in a bad way. I mean, one more chance for him to make us all have a hearty chuckle and see that no, he's not beyond hope yet of becoming a valuable member of the site. And he failed at that, too.

And on a personal note, if you find this entire episode depressing, that you would think of me and the rest of your friends that way is even more depressing. Because the staff is a bunch of sadists who will ban you and laugh at you for the hell of it when you did nothing wrong.

Oh, one last note: there was one last post that we deleted from his thread. It was an IP harvester site. Until the very end, he had no intention of ever cooperating and showing that yes, he could be redeemed. His very last action was one of malice.

The only thing I would find that may have appeared questionable was the statement implying that he would have gotten banned even if he had successfully finished the snowball challenge.
If he had taken his five days to come up with something quality, I don't think I would have perma'd him. But he did it in only a short while, and it showed. If you want to be redeemed, you're going to have to work for it, and to the bitter end he wasn't willing to do even that.

He was going to be banned regardless, the snowball challenge was never to "give him one last shot", his fate was sealed the moment he posted this thread and started spamming WHY DID YOU CLOSE MY THREAD and then got into a fight with staffers when told to drop it or else.

EDIT: I guess I'm wrong, Ruro's the one who ran the snowball challenge so whatever, I wouldn't have objected if she felt he earned it back.  I wanted to ban him without challenge but I let Ruro do what she wanted.

Frankly, I don't care how long it has been. I still think it's malicious to make a thread simply to hate one person. Call it moral high ground or whatever you may, he still needs to be treated with SOME dignity.
As much dignity as he treated us?  We gave him so many second chances it makes my head spin.  The guy was PERMABANNED, and bandodged 5 times, that's more than enough reason to keep him away for a lifetime.  And against our better judgement, we allowed him one last chance that NOONE ELSE has ever gotten, period.  And he went back to the same old shit, and then started getting hostile with us.

Sorry buddy, he earned it in spades.  Treat others as you wish to be treated.

*shrug*

We tried that, and he kept on coming back, thinking he was somehow welcome.  Permabanning and banning every single rereg wasn't getting through to him, so public callout was the last option available.  Believe me, I wanted to just ban him and get over with, but I saw the merit in pointing out his stupidity in hopes he never feels the desire to come back.

Uh, I don't hate this guy, but his behavior brought mockery upon himself. And Nobu saying that our laughter comes from the same place that results in bullying, racism, sexism, and any amount of human rights violations is a hugely inaccurate false equivalence. But then I don't take kindly to being so blithely scolded from on high like that.

I don't like mockery. I'm guilty of it sometimes too, but I still don't like it. And yes, I believe that mockery stems from the same basic trait of humans to judge someone as inferior to oneself, making it alright to treat them negatively. It's your choice to consider it 'scolding' if you wish, but that wasn't my intention.

If someone died, and I remarked that "it makes me sad to be reminded of the human trait that we're all moral", does that mean I'm scolding the dead? Or the people that mourn? >_o

Nope, because he treated us with absolute contempt, has been a pain and a bandodger for years now, and finally we got through his thick skull he's not welcome here.

Some people believe in 'an eye for an eye', others believe in 'turning the other cheek'. It's a difference in philosophy.

Just like the whole "Respect is earned, not given." statement that gets thrown around so often. There is still a baseline level of respect that I personally believe should be given to everyone, though obviously not everyone agrees with where that level should be.

The false equivalence you made there, though, is between mocking someone for having a history of malicious behavior and finally getting their comeuppance, and mocking someone for their gender, skin color, ethnic heritage or whatever. There is a world of difference between the two, as I hope you know. So yeah, you'll have to forgive me if I took offense to that comparison.

To be charitable, I think there's a chance that if he had accepted the snowball challenge in good humor, made us giggle with the result and concurrently started following the forum rules, he could have passed - it's just that no one had the slightest expectation of him doing that after coming off a year-long ban and then a 24-hour probation for not reading the rules. Not even himself.

If the admin will insist on that, they might as well just ban me and get it over with, as I know that's what will happen anyway with this challenge.

We took him seriously when he said this, and he backpedaled minutes later. That was the real last straw. I suppose it's immature to have made him into a subject of public mockery afterwards, but if anyone earned it, he did.

And he doesn't even seem to be fazed in the appeals thread - if he doesn't mind having his sordid internet history dug up, why should we?

He didn't earn it, no. I was still willing to give him a second chance, but trying to do a snowball challenge in such a short span of time is a really bad idea. Like I said, if he had taken his time and produced something of quality, he would have still been at the end of his rope, but he would have fulfilled the conditions of my challenge and been let back in.

In fact, the reason we didn't nip that appeals thread in the bud before I ever set off on my internet search was precisely because I didn't want to see my challenge go to waste. I worked too hard on that, to make it fair and viable. The only part I think I might have been going too far was the Metamorphosis crossover, but hey, wouldn't it have been a really good reason to let him back in if he had managed to pull off Card Captor Sakura meets Atlas Shrugged? Such a thing would have been spectacular. Too bad it can't be done in such a short time. Redemption isn't earned so conveniently and quickly.

Difference of opinion. I still wouldn't have gone to the lengths of making a public spectacle of it. I treat everyone, no matter how spiteful or stupid, with a baseline level of respect as a human being. For me, public taunting is below that baseline.

But, obviously, not everyone thinks that way. I'm simply stating my opinion. If I'm not supposed to state my opinion when it differs so drastically from the opinions of everyone else, then I'll just have to remember that.

If I really thought that, I would have made more than the offhand comment. I didn't expect to have it blown up to this extent, but i'm not about leave until I feel like what I was trying to say is clear.

And feel better, my thoughts were more of a 'general thoughts on humanity' than anything specifically geared at you guys. :] After all, i'm no moral paragon, and I've definitely been guilty of the same stuff in here. But standing on the sidelines instead of getting caught up in the moment like I know you all did made me look at this differently than I might have otherwise.

I really don't think this was mockery in any sense.  The guy earned every single bit, this was merely laying out his amazing history of disrespect and staff pain and torment.

And it's honestly not that part which makes me recoil. Bringing VG's transgressions to the light was necessary and I have no problems with it. It's just scrolling through the responses to that afterward that made me feel queasy.

There is a world of difference between the two, as I hope you know. So yeah, you'll have to forgive me if I took offense to that comparison.

False equivalence? Mocking, bullying, racism, sexism, murder, genocide. In one way or another all of these stem from basic human instincts and tendencies. And the feeling of hate. Being reminded of our capacity to hate (yes, even when I remind myself of the fact), even from people I look upon so highly(i.e. you guys), depresses me.

You can take the knee-jerk reaction and misrep my words into saying YOU GUYS ARE ALL JUST AS BAD AS THE NAZIS, I can't exactly stop you. That's your choice.

Ahahahah hahahahaha HAHAHAHAHAHA

No seriously, ahahahahhahahaha

He didn't hold malicious thought until the end?  The dude was banned for 2 weeks for shitposting before this version of the forums, and when his account got deleted due to the software reset, instead of actually you know, reading the huge notes all over the forums saying "accounts have been reset due to software upgrade, please rereg", he immediately posted HOW DARE THE MODS DELETE MY ACCOUNT AND GO BACK ON THEIR WORD and threw up a giant shitstorm.  This is what earned him his first perma.

This was over a year ago, so no, he's been a complete pain in the ass since day one.

Do you think he was consciously spiting you, or was he just stupid and felt he was violated?

I dunno, I can't view that thread, but it seems that it was confusion and fear that drove him, not hate.
Let me back into CPMC :|
