Okay, so the supergrazing during Yuugi's first spell always baffles me. How the hell is that done?

Okay, so the supergrazing during Yuugi's first spell always baffles me. How the hell is that done?

I'm not sure why it works or how to consistently do it, but I remember players missing there back when the WR routes were less polished, meaning that it's difficult even if you know how to do it, so I'm guessing people are losing runs there still.

"try ridiculous/nonsensical things"
"(ab)use the game system"
attempt to hug bosses all day erryday
Examples:

In stage6 SA final two spirits can be supergrazed:
http://replays.gensokyou.org/download.php?id=22698

Ten Desires extra, #2 spellcard of NUE can be supergrazed.
My practice capture data 5/192 (i have done 3 above nue captures; above nue timeout attempts; regular captures and attempts)
Third capture took 34 attempts:

These techniques are not being used yet.

Just guesses, but that's probably because
First Example: Graze counter is already maxed.
Second Example: You're probably going to bomb/trance that for larger score anyway. (I think that's how it works?)

Actually, never mind, I'm just dense apparently. While I'm here, might as well keep in the post that I'm going for 100m in my NDNB MoF 6 run. >_>

With ReimuC/any other shot-type besides ReimuA/any other difficulty than Lunatic it isn't, and you don't have to bomb it, it is possible to escape the supergraze, I think I did that in the old replay where I also supergrazed Okuu's opener.

Second, it's never tranced, and I can't see any reason for it not to be used, besides being very difficult and maybe losing some spell bonus from capturing it slightly slower?

Someone said that in practice mode Nue is positioned lower on the screen, and in actual runs she's a little higher.

You never trance on spells in TD Extra.

Staying on top of Nue on her second card is really difficult to do consistently, although I have beaten one of T's scores prior to Mamizou with it. :|

Dude... you should totally make a great scoring run and post on royalflare, even if it doesn't get star, people will maybe start trying that if they see someone doing it.

I remember T stating on IRC that he would possibly plan on using it if Ichizoku beat him using that tactic. If you are able to beat him, he will probably either resort to it or start reforming his route through the stage and the boss.

You know, ARF, the superplayers usually are acknowledged of the tricks, however, when they skip using some and still achieve WR scores, they happen to have good reasons to do so. You should not worry about them not using some tactic, unless you are planning to beat them with the said tactic.

With one exception.

(Also the way that most TD Extra spells apparently aren't worth trancing leads me to conclude that spell bonuses in the main game should have been higher.)

I think I would have enjoyed the game more if the spell cards were worth more, to be honest. Would make scoring a little more interesting, and you'd have to plan out hypers/bombs. Not that you don't have to do that now, of course. It just means that there is atleast some reward for skillful play of the stages, being able to capture every card for instance.

Sublime...

I think this is the first time I've seen stage 5 midboss Nazrin's spellcard get captured in a scoring run. Very interesting comparing the MarisaB and SanaeB routes. I wonder what he could have done if he didn't
Spoiler:
miss at the Ichirin supergraze
. I hope he will give the Lunatic scores the same treatment eventually!

UFO lunatic 3b.

Oh shin....

What's even more amazing is that this seems to be a somewhat low end result from his route and what he is capable of, I shuddered at the end of stage 5 and I don't get what happened in stage 6, seems like he was thrown off his game.

I hope he'll keep working on this. So much awesome.

I also watched your recent 1.39b PCB Normal, it was a shame what happened against Youmu, and before reading you WoT I couldn't be sure if the death in stage 3 was planned or not. I like you playstyle, I hope you keep on trying for 1.4 and beyond.

ただ5面6面があまりにも残念です

Yeah, he is not satisfied with Stage 5 and 6. I guess we can expect a new score to surface sometime.

EDIT:

Uh... he's not doing the kilking of Unzan's eye on the final spell. What gives? I thought that was supposed to be pretty lucrative? He also lost two lives in what looks to me like really stupid ways. Stage 3 post midboss and Murasa's 3rd non-spell. Ends with two lives so he could probably make do with less reds but then I think he put that in his comment too.

The second death looks intentional.  I wasn't paying attention the first time but saw that after the respawn it looked like an awfully good timing to run up and catch the next wave for grazing.  The second time around you can see him stop shooting before charging up.  Then, taking into account that he has to refresh his bomb stock for the following midboss there's only two places that come to my mind where you can utilize that death: the noncard and the beginning of stage five.  I don't recall the stage five suicide ever being put to use on Hard/Lunatic, though.  Perhaps it's too much to navigate at that point, and the higher graze value from the noncard makes the alternative less tempting.

And then maybe the whole thing was plan B starting as early as the death in stage three.  Assuming he lived and took advantage of Unzan's eye I would expect him to enter stage four with two bombs and one less life, or maybe he would hold off the second potential death during the eye and save it for one of the suicide locations mentioned above.

Edit: Depending on the circumstances with the laser spawn he might still opt to use a bomb on the eye after that second death rather than move down, and everything would still proceed as usual in this run...into a clear with one spare life?  Sounds more standard than two at least.  And reasonably safe.
