Title: Japan needs to stop with the moe anthropomorphism thing (an illustrated story)
Post by: Stuffman on August 01, 2010, 06:38:03 PM
It's starting to have weird effects on the way I perceive objects.

This is what was running through my mind going through the produce aisle last night:

Don't trust them! They are just trying to take advantage of you!

Afterall, orange is the color of evil!
I don't even know to what this is a reference.
Edit: Apparently Code Geass. Though I typed this before that previous post.

And this thread has brought to my attention that Stuffman has by far the best MoTK persona.  :3

Not quite yet.

Also, because I'm big on terrible wordplay puns, I spotted it immediately. And by terrible I mean nothing by dusty's sense of humor, I mean the sort of wordplay where you drop the mangled word and then waggle your eyebrows obnoxiously so as to imply that you're a goddamn moron if you can't pick up on it immediately.

Over here it's sugar. Actually, it's weird like you can't imagine to me how the rest of the world doesn't actually use sugar like here.

In the US, real sugar is rarely used in anything; almost everything uses high fructose corn syrup as a sweetener, because due to the extremely powerful corn lobby (yes they're extremely powerful, I'm serious here), farmers get huge government subsidies for growing corn, which makes corn and thus HFCS ridiculously cheap. So everyone uses it as an alternative to sugar. HFCS is also considerably unhealthier than real sugar, which is one of many reasons America has so many health problems.

A year or two ago Pepsi started doing limited runs of something called "Pepsi Throwback" which uses their old formula with real sugar, which is the first time younger people like me got to taste the difference. Maybe they're planning on a complete switch back if it sells well enough, since knowledge that HFCS is bad for you is spreading and sales are dropping, apparently.

HFCS is also considerably unhealthier than real sugar, which is one of many reasons America has so many health problems.

As much as I enjoy throwback and cane sugar colas, I take the negative propaganda of HFCS with a grain of salt. There's a whole lot of hype and spin from both sides,  and research has shown no clear winner. It's easy to demonize HFCS, since it's much easier for people to grasp that processed food = big bad and all-natural = healthy, but it's not so cut and dry as that. The big buzz-study linking obesity with HFCS only found correlative data between increased consumption of HFCS and rates of obesity, and further studies actually looking for a causative link have turned up inconclusive as far as I can tell. I think of HFCS as 'I wouldn't list it on the top 10 factors for US health problems, but it probably doesn't help much either'.

HFCS-tan vs Sugar-tan! Who will win?!!1

I know I've said this many times already, but it always amuses me to learn more about the alternatives the US finds to what I would call real food.
No, seriously, there's so much goddamn sugar here that it would probably better for both Brasil and the USA if the latter used our sugar. But I understand lobbies and how powerful they can get all right.
Kinda like our ethanol industry, and how all gasoline sold here must be 10% alcohol, I guess.

Horseradish sauce adds a spicy kick to your sandwich, but use it sparingly, and NEVER apply it directly to your tongue.

Also, it has a tendency to have water settle on top of it like ketchup does.

I forgot to specify earlier-- I absolutely refuse to drink non-diet soda, because lots of sugary stuff isn't good for you. As much as the past me would want to kick my ass for saying this, I've grown to prefer diet soda-- but really, that's only if I need a caffeine fix*. Coffee isn't always desirable/available, after all. :P

Ijiyatsu polarized.  You were either in it, in which case you were one of the "cool kids", or you weren't, in which case no one would give you the time of day.

An exaggeration, but not by much.

An exaggeration, but not by much.

Not to mention it also encouraged a "PLZ LET ME BE IN IT GUISE" mentality which quite frankly was very terrible.

It also encouraged massive amounts of brown-nosing and kiss-ass. Which quite frankly was ALSO very terrible, and the main reason why I stopped going to CPMC for a good while.

It actually was what got me interested and poking around in here myself. But I can see how it could have the opposite effect.

The whole Ijiyatsu thing kinda reminds me of that Simpsons episode, where the Hollywood bigwigs come to Springfield to film, and everyone starts acting ridiculous because they were so conscious of being observed, ruining what they had to begin with. People became focused with the meta to the point where the original content suffered, since it stopped being based on everyday things and started losing what made it interesting. :x

Naw, you're cool. :V

It's basically what theshim said; the whole thing just seemed like a clique to me, and it almost seemed like "if you aren't in this, you shouldn't be posting here".  It made this place amusing to lurk, but discouraged any actual contributions to activity.

So at work, our office has a number of chairs that we use for working with disabled clients. One of the chairs is held together in part by a strip of packing tape. From numerous asses sitting on and standing up from it, the tape has peeled back a bit and sticks to your clothes. It's kind of annoying. So when taking chairs out for the day, I said to myself, "Nah, I'll leave this chair in the storage. Can't stand using it." And then ... I could almost hear a distinct "wuwuu ... no one loves me ..." I immediately wheeled the chair out with the others.

I blame you, Stuffman.

too much work really...
I dunno, if I sat down and really get to vectoring my stuff, I probably take a full month.
nonetheless, make more comics, Stuff.
I used to vector. 30+ hours.

Now I freehand everything and it's over in 11 hours.

Inking is a skill I never really picked up. You need to know shit about what line widths to use.

I can't do color, either.

I live in New Hampshire. That's ... not completely inaccurate! Sometimes you can drive for ten whole minutes without losing reception!

This also reminds me of the time my sister and I were driving home from high school, and surfing channels, and we were on one station just long enough to hear a guy shout "FISH!" before we changed it again. We never found out what it was or what the context was, and we never will.

Inking is quite easy. Just place more pressure on the areas where there is more weight pulling down. (Folds of slacks, fingers, hair, nose, etc.

It only looks horrible when you overdo it or when you do it incorrectly.

I used to have good pressure when I vectored everything, but freehanding pretty much took most of it away. It doesn't look too boring if the lineart is detailed, though.

And I wish someone would just teach me to color. I can try, but only get average results.

But yeah, if you can't lineart these, get someone to. It's really good.

Bad idea. Too many in-jokes. Nobody would understand why I'm inserting myself as a Yuugenmagan eye, or know what a Gwahaha is.

Also, the drawing is actually pretty bad from a technical standpoint.

1) I'm stupid and didn't even realise it was Yuugenmagan.
2) I hadn't even heard of GWAHAHA before this thread.

3) None of the above points discredited this comic or made them any less entertaining for me.
